Nola on a winter vacation at the pet-friendly Skaneateles Fields, a Curio Collection by Hilton

If you’re traveling to Syracuse, NY with your dog — or just looking for an excuse to bring them along — you’re in luck. Syracuse has a surprisingly great pet-friendly scene, from coffee shops serving up pup cups to breweries with farm animals roaming the grounds. And nobody knows this city’s best spots better than Nola, one of my rescue dogs who is known for her crazy climbing skills (see more on her Instagram and TikTok).

Here are her top picks — plus a few bonus spots worth adding to your list.

Freedom of Espresso

If you need a coffee stop that actually welcomes your dog inside (not just outside during the warmer weather months), Freedom of Espresso is the place to go. This cozy Syracuse coffee shop is a local favorite — and for good reason. The vibe is warm and laid-back, the drinks are excellent, and yes, they have pup cups.

Nola celebrated her birthday here with a pup cup while my husband Ryan and I sipped on St. Patrick’s Day themed drinks (which were delicious). Nola had a blast watching all the customers come in and being pet many times. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee or settling in for a bit, it’s a great stop to make with your pup in tow.

Local 315 Brewing Company

This one is a standout, and honestly one of the more unique pet-friendly experiences you’ll find anywhere in the region. Local 315 Brewing Company in Warners (about a 10 minute drive from downtown) combines craft beer with a working farm — meaning you and your dogs can hang inside OR outside while watching the farm animals go about their day.

I brought all three of my dogs — Nola, Sammy, and Toby — and it was exactly the kind of afternoon that’s hard to recreate anywhere else. Good beer, happy dogs, and a goat or two making an appearance. What more could you ask for? It’s an especially great spot in warmer months when they host live music and food trucks, making it a full family day out. The staff members were incredibly friendly and so welcoming to all of the dogs there! They were welcome in any part of the brewery.

Skaneateles Fields, a Curio Collection by Hilton

If you’re making a trip of it and need a place to stay, Skaneateles Fields is an excellent choice. This Curio Collection by Hilton property welcomes dogs, and it’s located near the stunning village of Skaneateles — one of the most beautiful spots in the Finger Lakes region.

Nola stayed here with us, and the experience was seamless. The property is gorgeous, the staff was welcoming, and being near Skaneateles means you have easy access to the lake, charming shops, and excellent dining just a short drive away. But even if you don’t go into the quaint village, you have plenty to do on site at the hotel between the spa, pool, outdoor activities, dining options, and more.

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway from Syracuse or a home base for exploring the Finger Lakes with your dog, this is the one to book. Book your stay here.

More Pet-Friendly Spots Worth Exploring

Syracuse has plenty more to offer for dogs and their people. A few other spots on our radar:

Aloft Syracuse Inner Harbor – This is a Marriott hotel located in the inner harbor, so close to Meier’s Creek’s Syracuse’s location (one of my favorite spots for beer and pizza, and dogs are welcome outside on the patio), Destiny USA, and the soon-to-be aquarium coming to the city. This is a nice and affordable hotel option for those traveling with pets. Plus, they have their own dining experiences if you can’t leave the hotel. Book your stay here.

Crazy Daisies Flowers & Garden Cafe — This family-run flower farm and garden café is charming on its own, but on Tuesdays from 5–8pm they host Canines & Cocktails, where your dog gets a complimentary pupcake with any purchase. It’s also a fun place to go no matter the time of year with its festive food and drink options and various events.

The Cracked Bean Roastery & Cafe –  This is a specialty coffee roastery and café on James Street in with a great origin story. What started over a decade ago as a cast iron pan and a craving for better coffee turned into a full-fledged roastery, with the team roasting all their coffee in small batches to ensure freshness. The café officially opened in 2018 and has been a local favorite ever since. Although there is a photo of a dog inside, when I called recently (February 2026), I was told only dogs allowed outside. But always call ahead to see what management says!

Aurora Brewing Co. – This is one of my favorite spots on Tipperary Hill. It’s home to the old Now and Later (if you know, you know). Aurora Brewing Co. has three locations, one being in Syracuse and the others in Pittsford and King Ferry. They have a fantastic beer selection and love the pizza. Dogs are only allowed outside, though, so be ready to bring them in the warmer weather months.

Heid’s of Liverpool — A Syracuse-area institution since 1886, Heid’s has a great patio where you and your dog can enjoy hot dogs, Philly cheese steaks, and more right by the water.

Jamesville Beach and Park — For outdoor lovers, this park has a dedicated off-leash area where dogs can run, swim, and explore to their heart’s content.

Planning Your Pet-Friendly Syracuse Trip

A few tips to keep in mind before you go:

  • Call ahead — even pet friendly spots can have seasonal or capacity-based policies, so it’s always worth a quick check before you go
  • Bring water and a travel bowl — especially for outdoor spots like 315 Brewery

Whether you’re a local looking for new spots or a traveler passing through, Syracuse genuinely delivers for pet owners. Nola has officially approved this itinerary.
